| Common Dolphin
1.6 - 2.6 metres long, often breaches and bow-rides.
Hourglass pattern of tan and grey on the flanks. Seen in coastal
waters July to October.
Bottlenose Dolphin
2 - 2.4 metres long. Centrally placed fairly tall, slender
dorsal fin . Brown or dark grey back, lighter
grey lower flanks, graduating to
white on belly. Often breaches and
bow-rides. Seen all year , but in coastal waters more frequent
numbers seen June to August.
Harbour Porpoise
1.4 -1.9 metres long. Small central triangular fin,
dark grey back with paler patches on flank. Rarely
leaps clear of the water .The normal view is of the back and
small fin. Seen all year but in
coastal waters March to November.
Minke Whale
6.9 - 10 metres long. Fairly tall dorsal fin sited almost
two thirds along the back towards the tail.
Head and body dark grey to black,
with grey areas on flank and a diagonal white band
on flippers. Seen May to October.
